Day 8 - 6lbs down

Well I weighed in... I could get TMI here but I won't. Women everywhere will know what this means.

I'm stuck at 6lbs for the week. Which is great, don't get me wrong! But if the timing was better, I believe I would of lost 8lbs for the week........... Heh. Anywho! 6lbs is great!!

I am very proud of myself for resisting the urge to eat the ice cream sundae, the rolls, the delicious looking baked potatoes, the chocolate donuts, the soda in large quantities, and all the other junk food that my DH ate throughout the week. *grins* Love you hunny!!

So the week has taught me several things. The several sips of Pepsi wasn't worth it. That's about it. I've been pretty darn good! Just need to eat more veggies and less cheese.... Maybe. ;) My pal Mark lost 70+lbs eating RAW. Sorry Mark, but I don't like food uncooked and I like my meat and cheese. As if that wasn't obvious ;) I've been drinking a ton of water each day. I'm guessing atleast 100 ounces if not more. I've had limited diet soda and more water. Lemon water is your friend people!

My teammate didn't weigh in yet. I'm curious to what she lost though. It didn't sound like she stuck to it like I did but even if she lost a little bit that's great! I've submitted my weight loss for the week and I think they'll do it separately. I'm up against 3000 other people so if I happen to win A prize in this competition, I'd be very happy.

Breakfast-

  • 2 eggs w/ shredded cheddar, mushrooms
  • Ketchup
  • Big glass of water
Lunch-

  • 1 Small Carb Balance Tortilla (7 carbs)
  • A smear of cream cheese
  • 1 Packet of Taco Bell Mild Sauce
  • 1 Jell-O SF strawberry cup
OK so the above doesn't sound like the best option for me but I was stuck! I did a huge grocery shopping spree but bought no meat! I'm heading over to Stew Leonards tonight for some chicken and maybe a few steaks, then I'll get my protein in. I use to survive on tortillas, cream cheese and mild sauce. Love it!! It's very filling. They say not to eat TOO many tortillas in the first two weeks because it can stall you but I wasn't about to eat cream cheese and hot sauce by itself now...

Dinner-
I have no idea! I still have those bacon wrapped Filet Mignons but we have to drop off a CD to a friend/Client before she goes off to camp. What she doesn't know is that I have a few 8x10's I printed off for her. So we're heading over there around 7:30, which means I won't eat until 8:30... Which means I'll more than likely get yet ANOTHER salad from Stew Leonards!
I'm getting tired of salads...

Updated:
Around lunch time, there was a meeting that let out and they left two huge platters of sandwiches and pastries. I ignored the pastries and proceeded to debread two sandwiches and ate the insides which consisted of roastbeef, turkey and cheese. Just a few slices of each. It definitely held me over!

Dinner consisted of a grilled Double Down from KFC. It was actually quite gross. Not the greasy mess people think it is because it is grilled, but it was just dry. I bet the fried version was better tasting if you're like me and enjoy KFC that is.
I won't get it again because it was just too dry. There was one slice of bacon, the breasts were extremely thin and there was this spicy sauce that wasn't too bad but... I ended up going home, adding more cheese and a low carb wrap to make it taste better. I paid 5 bucks for that thing, I wasn't about to toss it! So I made it taste better. Heh.

Carb Count- 13.83
Calories- 1363

  1. First off, congratulations on gaining the motivation necessary to start a serious weight loss program. As the past comments you vent about have been removed, I can’t see what 3rd grade level they stooped to. I’m not interested in falling into that category, but I would assume you expected some sort of reaction to what has consistently been a controversial weight-loss program when you started this blog.

My biggest question after reading through your menus is whether you will be considering adding exercise into your program once your sprained ankle is healed. While I’m sure any doctor would applaud your weight-loss efforts and successes, I find it hard to believe they wouldn’t see a need for some cardiovascular exercise to overcome the strain all of these cholesterol and calorie-laden foods are inevitably placing on your heart. What are your thoughts on the aspect of this diet that is sure to bring on the critics? It’s certainly your choice as to how you lose the weight, but it seems risky and unsustainable to adopt a diet that consists of muliple trips to BK, bacon-wrapped anything, and no exercise.

  2. Before I had back to back injuries, I was in the gym 3-4 times a week and several times a month I was in there Monday-Friday because I am able to access the gym at work. That was my lunch break for quite some time. I wasn't a pro by any means but it was a regimen I enjoyed on a regular basis. My plan is to buy a new pair of sneakers with my next check and head back to the gym.

While you can do Atkins or any other low carb diet much healthier than I did last week, I believe I stated that I was tight on money and wasn't able to manage a decent trip to the store. I admit my life isn't all veggie and non red meat but it's still within the guidelines of the plan, it's up to the person how they mold the plan around themselves. Last week, that was me molding it around my lifestyle due to various reasons. Could it of been better? Most definitely.

  3. Oh and another thing to your post about the other poster- I understand I'll get some comments about how I'm doing this plan but... There is no need to be negative.

  4. Congrats on losing 6 lbs on your controversial program :) I agree with Allison that this is not the healthiest way to lose weight but to each their own, you live and learn. Personally, I have done low carb (but not nearly as low carb as you) in the past and it has never been sustainable after the loss. When I was good and caught myself after gaining a few lbs, that was good, but more than once I gained it all back and then some.

I also think you are missing dairy completely. Is this not on the plan? Can you get yourself some greek yogurt? Even if you eat 6 oz a day for 8-10 carbs, its better than no dairy at all. Are you taking an supplements. I do not believe in taking supplements for nutrients instead of real food but think its something for you to consider. Are you keeping track of FAT grams?Does Atkins give you a recommendation as to that? When are you trying the cauliflower pizza?

  5. Thanks!

Unlike South Beach, Milk isn't allowed within the first two weeks. It's extremely strict and says to go beneath 20 grams of carbs a day. The majority of those 20 grams SHOULD be veggies. I think I'll stick to the 20 grams as long as I can and go above every now and then. Maybe up to 30.

I am on supplements. I just ran out of Prenatals though, but I've realized Prenatals have MORE in them than the regular vitamins and I loved taking them. Healthier hair, skin, nails... Need to hit Target this weekend... I take 3000iu of Vitamin D because many people don't realize they have a deficiency until it's too late so it was recommended by my doctors. I also take a Super B Complex and a Chromium each morning with breakfast.

Atkins doesn't tell you to keep track of your fat grams at all, just the amount of sugar. I am above average for last week and I'm planning on being below this week.

  6. Here are a few low carb/low fat ideas that you can add into your diet....

tuna over salad - make it yourself and use light mayo (1 carb per serving) You'll even get some dairy out of the mayo

Instead of Ranch use oil & vinegar - Way better for you!

celery and all natural peanut butter

Use low fat cheese - it doesn't have any more carbs than regular cheese

Use 1 egg yolk and the rest egg whites - you'll still get protein but you'll get rid of the cholesterol and extra fat

    Weight Watchers String Cheese

spinach steamed with garlic - serve your steak over this, the spinach will soak in the flavor of the steak and it's an excellent source of nutrition.

Losing weight for good is about making a lifestyle change. Going to BK, KFC etc... and choosing a low carb option is not a lifestyle change. Making a commitment to preparing healthy, low carb meals IS a lifestyle change. If you love ranch, make it a treat that you have once a week on your salad. You'll enjoy it more.

I noticed that there aren't any snacks on your diet. You need to eat throughout the day so that you eat until you are not hungry........NOT until you are full. This is part of shrinking your stomach so that it wants less food.

Good luck! I hope you can use my suggestions.

  7. I've mentioned this to someone before, if you look at the low fat nutritional value compared to the full fat, you're more than likely to see added sugar. It happens 9 times out of 10. Now if you tell me differently that it's less carbs, 0 sugar and still 0 fat. Sure I'll make the change but I can almost be certain you won't find that as an option. :)

Thank you for the list of ideas though. I appreciate it! If you have any other suggestions that are low carb friendly, feel free to add them. I don't mind! I'm pretty stuck when it comes to a veggie/side option that doesn't include any type of carb/sugar overload.

Oh and I could eat Broccoli/Garlic/Oil everyday if I knew how to make it properly.

As far as snacks go. Believe it or not, when I'm low carbing, my stomach shrinks really fast so I'm not hungry all the time. Normally my snacks are well today Babybel cheese (Low fat btw!), never ate it from yesterday but I'm not sure if I'll eat it today, since they had some turkey in the kitchen. I nibbled that around 2pm so I'm pretty good.
